Ongwediva Town is situated in the Oshana Region, less than 6 km away from Oshakati, the regional capital. The town commonage covers an area of about 4104, 2896 hectares. It has an overall population of 27 000 people of which 3 500 live in the informal area of the town. The population growth per annum is increasing to 3.5%. Most of the residents are Oshiwambo speaking. There are a few English speaking residents. The employed residents work either for the government or private sectors.

Ongwediva has the highest concentration of educational facilities in Northern Namibia. Currently 11 649 Learners get their education at the various schools and colleges in Ongwediva. Ongwediva has the only Teachers’ Training College, the only Vocational Training Centre and the only School for Disabled Persons in Northern Namibia.
